drawings for raffles?

I'm just curious about how the drawings for raffle winners are done. They are supposed to be random, and I'm sure names are not drawn from a hat, so how exactly are they drawn?

Doesn't a computer basically use a randomizer to pick the winning number, and whomever's ticket belongs to that number will win? correct me if I'm wrong.
